Presenting at Oxford University Conference on Embodied Consciousness 5th September 2024
August 24, 2024
Andrew will be speaking at the Embodied Consciousness, Psyche & Soul in Research and Practice conference at Oxford University on Thursday 5th September, 2024.
Presentation Abstract
Shaiva Tantra, a non-dualistic spiritual tradition originating in ancient India, dating back as far as the early 6th century CE, upholds the idea that consciousness is fundamental, a perspective that aligns with Bernardo Kastrup’s analytical idealism.
Its ‘view teachings’ posit that suffering stems from a fundamental misperception of reality and ignorance of our true nature.
In this short presentation, I propose that the view teachings of Non-dual Shaiva Tantra might offer a compelling solution to the “crisis of modernity” that plagues contemporary society. The crisis of modernity, characterised by the fragmentation of traditional values, increasing individualisation, and existential angst, calls for a transformative perspective that addresses these challenges head-on.
Throughout this presentation, I will highlight how Shaiva Tantra’s timeless wisdom can serve as a vital bridge between ancient knowledge and contemporary needs, offering a holistic and embodied approach to address the root causes of suffering, evident by the growing number of scientists becoming interested in mystical experiences and post-materialism.
